Where they cluster

The locations that recur most in the records: Tijuana (3), Puerto Vallarta (3), Punta de Mita (3), with 3 of 32 centers publishing no location at all. Tepoztán and the Pacific coast (Puerto Vallarta, Punta de Mita) for psilocybin and ceremonial programs; Baja California — Tijuana and Rosarito, an afternoon from San Diego — for the ibogaine clinics. Oaxaca, the region most associated with ceremonial psilocybin, appears once in the records. Location matters more than the brochures let on, because it determines how far you are from a hospital if something goes wrong, and how much of your fee is paying for beachfront rather than clinical staff.

What to watch for

Ibogaine is the one substance in this index with a documented cardiac mortality risk. It prolongs the QT interval and has killed people with undiagnosed heart conditions. Any Mexican ibogaine program worth considering will require an ECG, a magnesium and potassium panel, and a physician physically present through the session. A clinic that waves that away is not a clinic.
